Harvey Milk Festival : May 11th, held at @JD Hamel North Main Street. Come celebrate “10 years” with us. We have seen a lot of change, especially in these past 10 years! We have been holding the space for our community to come together.

HMF MUSIC will conclude with a downtown concert in JD Hamel Park featuring 10 emerging musicians making sonic waves across the United States. Headlining bands to appear include glam dream pop band GGOOLLDD (Baton Rouge), hardcore acoustic doowop band Pinc Louds (Brooklyn), ambient electronic band LANNDS (Jacksonville), and local favorite, the recently reunited, MeteorEYES (Sarasota), Linqua Franqa (Athens), MONTERREY (MIA), Divine AF (SRQ), The Pretty Dirties (SRQ), Kristopher James (SRQ), Lemón Royale

Keynote speaker, Nathan Bruemmer, JD, is known for his work as Executive Director for ALSO YouthSt Pete Pride Board, and his continuing his work with Equality Florida as a member of the TransAction Advisory Board.

EMCEES: Berry Ayers: As the creative force behind Sarasota’s favorite hometown girl Beneva Fruitville, Berry Ayers has been hosting the longest running theatrical production in Sarasota, Beneva Fruitville’s Drag Queen Bingo Bonanza, for almost nine years. Berry has Musically Directed, Choreographed, Directed and Acted in 100s of plays and musicals from NYC to LA and around the world.

Jason Lee is an activist personality, designer, entrepreneur, and marketer. Jason founded the international community lifestyle and clothing brand Idratherbenaked Community, which raises awareness for LGBTQ issues

We are reintroducing an interactive installation project that was initially done before marriage equality was passed. The instillation asks patrons to step into Harvey Milk’s shoes and awaken their inner activist. Nick Sirotich will also being doing live art during the festival. He did an illustration in 2012 for HMF, and since has been a San Francisco based illustrator, designer & muralist.

Food, beverage and other artist/nonprofit vendors will be on site. Bring a picnic blanket and spend the day. This event is FREE.

We will have some special events taking place to celebrate the work we as a community have done, and also to continue to honor the life and legacy of Harvey Milk. We have shared memories and continue to raise awareness about the LGBTQ+ community.

Harvey Milk Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary alongside the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. Harvey Milk Festival honors the legacy of Harvey Milk by fostering the arts as a catalyst for social and political change. HMF features a variety of attractions including live music, film, performing and visual artists, speakers, and vendors designed to engage a large and diverse audience.
